San Vito lo Capo is a 4 Vele location, a recognition that every year Legambiente and the Touring Club assign to Municipalities that meet specific tourist and environmental requirements, including:
The Port
With its 200 well-sheltered berths, it is an excellent refuge for nautical tourism and the starting point for the countless sea and underwater excursions of the beautiful San Vito coast.
The Sanctuary and the Secco tuna fishery
The traces of Phoenicians, Arabs, Normans and Spaniards can all be found in what, together with the Secco tuna fishery, is the oldest monument in the town: the Sanctuary. The building, an ancient defensive stronghold, has undergone several transformations over the centuries. Today it is home to the Parish of San Vito Martire and houses within it a museum display of sacred objects and artistic artefacts of the highest value, objects that tell the story of the town and the community of San Vito lo Capo.
The lighthouse
It watches over the town and illuminates the night sky of San Vito lo Capo: it is the lighthouse, a point of reference and symbol of the place. Recently restored, it can be reached by walking along the port with a short walk. Since it is a military building, it is open to the public and is reserved for rare events.
The chapel of Santa Crescenza and the watchtowers
At the gates of San Vito lo Capo stands the chapel of Santa Crescenza, a building of Arab origin dedicated to the holy nurse of the young martyr Vito. Along the entire Gaia coast you can see the characteristic watchtowers: Isulidda, Torrazzo, Sceri, Impiso. Fortifications largely built at the end of the 16th century to defend the inhabitants from the incursions of Saracen pirates.
